Added new street entrance, extra sunlight and landscape amenity adjacent to both new living room extensions. A new double garage with laundry and new foyer was added to connect to the existing lounge which was increased to the northwest. The kitchen was replaced to create an increased dining living area to the northwest with a steel structure extended to pergola outdoor space with no visible corner support. Bedroom 3 was altered to provide a new hall to new ensuite and more private new main bedroom to northeast.
Existing laundry was converted to new separate office with independent hall access.
The reworking of the existing plan created the most cost efficient and liveable layout for the family dynamics, providing spaces that flowed or could be used separately.
By planning additions to 3 sides of the existing house this allowed new parapet walls to be created that hide existing roofing, new gutters and heat pumps etc. Existing brick walls were plastered to match new plaster walls and new linear clad wing walls were introduced to create a series of elegant contemporary boxes of different heights punctuated by large floor to ceiling double glazed windows and sliding stacking doors to capture maximum sunlight and views and create indoor / outdoor flow to the private lawn and new gardens. Grey paving, asphalt, carpet and cladding were chosen as base colours used for the introduction of accent colours with slashes of orange on a plaster screen wall and red on tiles in the kitchen and furniture set off by white wall and ceiling interiors. The new extended living rooms were created to provide a spacious, liveable, and energy efficient design to allow the owners to enjoy modern indoor and outdoor living. The change to a contemporary style was adopted as a modern image that concealed the buildings age and fitted into context with the row of single storey houses in the street for a dramatic but positive environmental impact. The additions and alterations were completed on budget and have breathed new life into an older property with a simple modern clean lined style much to the owners delight
