Design two storeys to reduce the footprint and capture maximum sun and views on both levels. The residence was excavated into the site to minimize environmental impact, maximize outdoor space, and overcome height limitations. Upper level bedrooms face north, east and west, with access to a deck. Louvred areas screen summer sun whilst allowing winter sun, views and privacy. Clean lines of plaster, titan sheet, stacked masonry, and aluminium joinery contrast with the traditional surrounding villas to provide a new contemporary residence with a point of difference. Warm earthy tones feature a timber deck flowing from the entry court through the residence as timber flooring to outdoor living deck as a circulation axis enhanced by open timber stair and double height space with glass balustrade. Spacious light airy interiors open onto a private landscaped court via glazed stacker sliding doors. Titan panels from exterior walls extend through the central core to enhance the interior / exterior connection. A paneled door to match wall provides secret access to a study. The foyer, dining, mezzanine, and main bedroom enjoy views along the north / south axis. Energy efficient heat pumps, blinds, Hebel upper level floor mass and high levels of sound insulation enhance liveability of a very cost effective home.
